What happens if my Iceland to Greenland flight is delayed or cancelled?

We understand how frustrating flight delays and cancellations can be, especially when you’re excited for your Greenland adventure. While delays are outside of our control, we want to detail the support available.

Included Iceland-Greenland Flight

Flights to Greenland operate with Icelandair from Keflavik (Iceland).

Whilst your local host books the flights to/from Greenland, they have no responsibility for the flights themselves, and the flight is subject to the airline's terms and conditions.

What you need to know about flight delays

  • Delays and cancellations can happen: Weather conditions and airline operations sometimes lead to flight disruptions. While we hope this won’t affect your trip, it’s important to be prepared.

  • Who’s responsible for what:
If your flight is delayed or cancelled, the airline is responsible for:

    • Rebooking you on the next available flight

    • Providing accommodation or meals if applicable under their policy

  • Who receives flight updates:
Your flights are booked by your local host, not by Much Better Adventures. This means:

    • The airline will send updates to your host, not to MBA.

    • Your Greenland host will share updates with you when they receive them — but please note, the most reliable and fastest way to get updates at the airport is by speaking directly with the airline desk or airline representative.

    • There will be no MBA or local host representative at the airport.

What happens to your itinerary

  • If your delay is 24 hours or more:
While you wait for your flight to Greenland to be rescheduled, your host will do their best to arrange an alternative excursion in Iceland, if time and availability allow. The activities available at short notice may be limited.

  • If your arrival in Greenland is delayed by up to 48 hours:
Your host will operate an amended version of the itinerary. They’ll make sure you experience the best highlights of the trip within the shorter timeframe, as long as weather conditions allow and it’s safe to do so.
Please note: the tour end date and your return flight will remain unchanged.

About refunds and travel insurance

  • Travel insurance:
Most travel insurance policies are unlikely to cover delays caused by weather or airline disruptions, so we strongly recommend checking the details of your policy in advance.

  • Partial refunds:
In line with the Package Travel Regulations, MBA will issue a partial refund if part of your tour in Greenland is missed due to a delay.

    Here’s how this works:

    • We calculate the refund by deducting the flight cost from the total adult trip price.

    • We then refund a pro-rata amount based on the number of days or half-days you missed in Greenland.

    • Example: The flight cost is 40% of the total trip price, therefore the refund would apply to the remaining 60%, divided by the number of days.
